High Contrast Photography is a published, award-winning wedding photography company that has been in the business since 2010. We say that our motto is "photographing happiness" - that's because it's our job to ensure your happiness is captured expertly, from engagement to wedding album. That spunky blonde lady you see in the photo is me, Sarah Koermer. As the owner, I make sure I oversee every aspect of your photography process so that it's perfectly created, crafted, and captured just for you. With HCP's team having so many years of experience, you can rest easy knowing that your memories are being captured by a team of photographers who are well-versed in all sorts of lighting scenarios.

About Sarah

Charm City will always be my home! I was born in Baltimore and raised in the suburbs of Harford and Cecil Counties, and I've settled quite nicely into the lovely town of Havre de Grace. I'm a huge foodie, was probably a sommelier in another life, and am absolutely addicted to travel.

My parents say they knew when I was twelve years old that I was going to be an entrepreneur. Choosing to study photography in college was an easy decision, but the craving to run my own company followed soon after. I started up High Contrast Photography while I was still enrolled at Cecil College, and continued to grow the company after I graduated with my associate's degree. Once HCP blossomed, I received my bachelor's degree in Communication Studies from Towson University.

I have a love affair with people, laughter, and memories. It is perhaps because of this that I was drawn so naturally and powerfully to weddings, and I will tell anyone that I have the best job in the world! The love and happiness I get to witness at weddings gives me some of the best "warm fuzzies." Natural emotions, laughter, and connection are what fuel my work, and I'd love to capture yours. :)

What's your "style"?

In general, I consider my photography style to be clean and vibrant, with a beautiful mix of modern and traditional imagery. We use a blend of photojournalistic and posed portraiture to capture your happiest moments in the most efficient and honest way possible.

How many weddings do you do per year?

High Contrast Photography averages around 20 weddings each year. Running HCP is my full-time career, so you can be assured that my attention is directed fully to my clients and not a part-time or "day" job. 2024 is my 15th year photographing weddings, and I have captured nearly 500 days of happiness in my career.

Do you work from a shot-list, and can I request photos?

With so many years of experience in the wedding industry, I certainly have an extensive flow of photos we typically take at each wedding that in general capture all of the important moments and people of the day. However, every wedding day is different, and we absolutely welcome your input to your specific style to ensure we are capturing what's most important to you.

Do you offer any discounts?

HCP does not provide "off season" or "off peak" discounts, but I am proud to offer a 10% package discount to any couples where either member of the couple is active or reserve U.S. military. I also offer elopement packages for weekday weddings - click here for more info!

Do you charge travel fees?

Any weddings within 60 driving miles of Havre de Grace, MD are not charged a travel fee. HCP is also available for destination weddings. Check out this section for all the details!

Why do you bring a non-shooting assistant if you have a second shooter?

As photographers, we do many things throughout the day besides take photos! Each and every one of these things draws our focus away from capturing your memories, so an assistant is present to ensure we can focus all of our attention on composing perfect images for you. The assistant, who is there in addition to myself and my second shooter, will do things such as aiding in posing, arranging the bridal gown, setting up lighting, engaging the wedding party, and many other incredibly important tasks.
